The Things We Believe From The “Old Wives”
If you have been in EMS for a while, or are just learning, we hear things that are “gospel truth’ because it has been passed from one EMT “expert” to another. This class looks at the “Old Wives Tales” in EMS and makes the necessary corrections to help us in our quest for excellent care.
Objectives:
- Identify common “old wives’ tales” and myths in EMS that may be incorrectly accepted as established clinical practice.
- Differentiate evidence-based practice from tradition, anecdotal experience, and outdated EMS practices.
- Evaluate common EMS treatments and assessment practices using current clinical guidelines and available evidence.
- Apply evidence-based decision-making to improve patient care and avoid potentially harmful or ineffective interventions.
