Everything is on Fire

This presentation provides a prehospital-focused overview of sepsis and septic shock, emphasizing the importance of recognizing sepsis early—even when a patient does not initially appear critically ill. The significant mortality associated with sepsis challenges providers to identify which seemingly stable patient may have the greatest risk of deterioration.

Objectives:

  • Define sepsis and septic shock
  • Explain the pathophysiology of sepsis and septic shock
  • Recognize early clinical indicators of sepsis in the prehospital setting
  • Describe appropriate prehospital management of suspected sepsis and septic shock
