Biography

Brett Cross has devoted his life to advancing EMS starting as an EMT in high school and working his way up. He is passionate about providing data driven, research backed, quality education. Prior to joining the Handtevy team he was a Director in the Utah Bureau of EMS overseeing the trauma, stroke, STEMI, cardiac arrest, Emergency Medical Services for Children, performance improvement, and EMS education programs. During the COVID-19 pandemic Brett served as the Medical Surge Branch Director for the State of Utah.

Brett continues with clinical care working part time as a flight paramedic for Classic Air Medical, and as a firefighter/paramedic for North Fork Fire Department. He is also the Team Commander for the UT-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team, a federal medical asset that responds to disasters, and provides medical care in affected communities. Brett volunteers as a member of the Education Committee for NAEMT and participates in other EMS committees, associations, and boards that advance the prehospital provider profession. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Services Administration and a master’s degree in Public Administration. Brett is a combat veteran having spent nine years in the Army National Guard as a medic and completed one combat tour in Afghanistan.

The spectacular mountains in Utah is where you can find him chasing his twin toddlers during his free time. Brett and his family enjoy traveling and it doesn’t matter if it is by land, air, or boat!
