Underground Storage Tank Response
Underground storage tanks (USTs) may be less common today, but they still exist and pose serious hazards during maintenance, repair, and emergencies. Any entry into these tanks is considered a confined space and presents unique risks to workers and first responders. This session will review the hazards associated with underground storage tanks, the dangers responders may encounter, and the importance of proper scene assessment, risk recognition, and safe response practices.
Objectives:
- What hazards are likely to be encountered?
- What safeguards exist for entrants and rescuers?
- What conditions will likely result in injury and rescue?
