The Bun and the Oven

“The Bun and The Oven” is a comprehensive presentation tailored for EMS providers, focusing on the critical management of obstetric emergencies in the pre-hospital setting. This session covers a range of scenarios, from complications in pregnancy to urgent deliveries, equipping participants with the skills and knowledge needed to safely and effectively care for both mother and baby. Through a blend of anatomy review, case studies, and up-to-date guidelines, EMS professionals will learn how to assess and intervene in high-stakes situations, ensuring the best possible outcomes during one of the most challenging calls they may encounter.

Objectives:

  • Recognize the key signs and symptoms of common obstetric emergencies in the pre-hospital setting, including complications such as preeclampsia, placental abruption, and preterm labor.
  • Demonstrate appropriate emergency interventions for childbirth complications, including managing breech presentations, umbilical cord prolapse, and postpartum hemorrhage, ensuring the safety of both mother and baby.
  • Apply updated protocols and guidelines for the pre-hospital management of obstetric emergencies, improving the ability to make critical decisions under pressure and optimize patient outcomes.
