Mastering Triage
All EMTs are supposed to know how to triage people, but most are very rusty at actually doing it. The new national standard is evidence-based SALT triage. This session covers the principles of triage, conventional and SALT triage, and the use of tagging systems. It also includes two triage drills to engage the audience and practice what they have just learned.
Objectives:
- Describe why triaging and tagging patients is essential during multiple casualty incidents.
- List and describe the RED-YELLOW-GREEN-BLACK triage categories
- Describe the R-P-M method of START triage assessment
- Describe how to use a triage tag
- Given 20 patient scenarios, assign a triage category to each patient, using START triage.
