Left Ventricular Assist (LVAD) Emergency Response And Management
The University of Utah Hospital/VAMC’s course on Left Ventricular Assist Device Emergency Response Course is designed to teach emergency responders how to properly and safely care for LVAD patients in acute scenarios. This course includes a brief overview of heart failure pathology that leads to end-stage heart disease where a person may require mechanical circulatory support such as an LVAD. It also covers pump anatomy and physiology, code algorithms with case reviews.
As the second half of this course there will be a hands-on review of equipment management and alarm review and trouble-shooting and who to contact in emergent scenarios.
NOTE: This lecture is a two-part class with hands-on training.
