Acute Coronary Syndromes for EMTs – Part 1

Cardiovascular disease is a major killer in America, and the range of the disease is described as “acute coronary syndromes”. This session will cover the range of ACS from angina to sudden cardiac death and typical disease progressions. There will be an emphasis on how to recognize these syndromes and treatment strategies.

Objectives:

At the completion of this session, the student will be able to:

  1. Explain the risk factors for coronary artery disease and disease progression
  2. Explain angina and the typical presentation
  3. Explain unstable angina and typical presentation
  4. Explain myocardial infarction and typical presentation
  5. Explain the typical causes of sudden cardiac arrest
