Biography

Captain Scott Winkler is a Firefighter/EMT and a 29-year veteran of the Salt Lake City Fire Department. He currently serves as the Station Captain for Fire Station #4 in Salt Lake City’s upper avenues area. He also serves as the Wildland Duty Officer for “A” Platoon and assists the Department in Wildland training, coordination, and deployments.

Captain Winkler began his fire service career with the United States Forest Service as a wildland firefighter for 5 seasons in the early 90’s with the Uinta National Forest and served 4 years in the United States Navy prior to that.

During his time with the Salt Lake City Fire Department, Captain Winkler has directed the development of wildland firefighting response, policy, and Red Card training for the new members of the Department. He has represented the Department in three deployments to California in the last 8 years.

Born and raised in Utah, Captain Winkler is married and loves to travel and recreate in the outdoors with his wife, family, and friends.
