Trauma Survivor

Biography

Lauren Willardson was just 19 years old when she was introduced to the world of emergency care. Her exposure did not come through training or a professional career, but through a stabbing attack in her home as she slept. She was only ten weeks into what should have been an 18-month missionary assignment in Houston, Texas. As a result of the attack, Lauren suffered 9 stab wounds, many of which pierced all the way through her extremities or targeted vital parts of her body. Lauren underwent extensive surgery, as well as months of physical and emotional therapy, but still recovered 3x faster than was predicted by medical professionals.

Through the grace of God and an outstanding healthcare team, Lauren relearned to breathe, eat, move, sit, and walk. She returned to complete her missionary service and has since graduated from BYU and begun her career. Lauren enjoys sharing her story in a variety of venues to promote faith, give back to the trauma community, and help others currently undergoing similar challenges.
