Serial Killer Series – Sepsis!
Sepsis is a major cause of death, especially in the elderly! This presentation will explain the evolution and effects of an infection in the bloodstream and how it causes septic shock. Concepts of SIRS, sepsis, and septic shock will be covered, along with early recognition and management of sepsis.
Objectives:
At the completion of this session, the student will be able to:
- Explain how the body responds to fighting off infection
- Explain the physiology/pathophysiology of SIRS/Sepsis and Septic Shock
- Explain patient presentation for SIRS/Sepsis/Septic Shock
- Explain the recognition and treatment of Sepsis
