Serial Killer Series – Seizures
While many seizures are non-life-threatening and the result of a seizure disorder, many seizures are life-threatening. In fact, a seizure may herald a life-threatening problem caused by something other than a seizure disorder. In this case study-based presentation, the rapid assessment and management of seizures will be covered, along with the differential assessment of seizures.
Objectives:
At the completion of this session, the student will be able to:
- Explain what a seizure is
- Explain what a simple and complex partial seizure is
- Describe the different types of general seizures
- Explain the conditions that may mimic seizures
- Explain the assessment and treatment of status epilepticus
