BLS Understanding of the Trauma Triad of Death
The provider who can assess, identify and treat a patient while simultaneously preventing the trauma triad of death will be effective in reducing trauma-related morbidity and mortality. This approach to trauma care is essential, as once the patient develops hypothermia, acidosis and DIC, it is most often not reversible and mortality greatly increases. As EMS providers, our assessments and level of care provided in a timely manner is crucial to increasing successful outcomes.
