Beyond the Pain Scale – Practical Pain Management for EMTs
This presentation focuses on practical pain assessment and management for EMTs, including recognizing verbal and nonverbal signs of pain, understanding the patient’s history and physical findings, and using appropriate treatment strategies. EMTs will also learn the importance of reassessment and documentation following treatment.
Objectives:
- Understand the pain assessment scales, psychology of pain, patient history, physical findings, and recognition of nonverbal pain indicators.
- Understand the pain-management strategies within the EMT scope of practice and protocol-approved medications.
- Discuss the importance of reassessing and documenting the patient’s response to treatment, including changes in pain, vital signs, and overall condition.
