Acute Coronary Syndromes for EMTs – Part 2 – 12-Lead ECGs for EMTs
All those squiggly lines! At first, it’s very intimidating, but it’s not all that complicated. Many EMTs today are expected to acquire and transmit a 12-lead in their system. This session will help any EMT learn to apply electrodes accurately and acquire and transmit a 12-lead ECG. In addition, a basic analysis of the 12-lead for S-T elevation and depression will be covered, along with its interpretation. This is a great primer, and you will walk away feeling very comfortable with 12 leads and what they all mean. It’s really not that complicated!
Objectives:
At the completion of this session, the student will be able to:
- Explain the placement and application of electrodes and leads for 12-lead acquisition
- Explain what ST-segment depression and elevation mean and how to identify them
- Explain how ST-segment changes are used to identify infarct location
- Explain the approach to right vs left-sided infarctions
